A sought-after moderator, Ghida Fakhry has hosted large international conferences such as the Doha Forum, and panel discussions for the World Economic Forum, the UN, the World Bank, IRENA, the Alliance of Civilizations, World Minds, and the Nobel Peace Center, among others. She has also emceed award ceremonies at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the Prince Claus Fund and other European and US-based organizations.
Ghida Fakhry is currently Host and Executive Producer of TRT World’s flagship programs from Washington DC: Inside America with Ghida Fakhry focusing on U.S. politics, and Bigger than Five covering global issues. She helped relaunch the Qatar Foundation’s much-anticipated Doha Debates and was the Moderator for its opening season, steering a series of informative, dynamic and robust discussions on a wide range of topics of global interest ranging from geopolitics, peace and security, human rights, to gender equality, business and climate change.
Ghida was previously Lead Anchor for Al Jazeera English in the network’s Americas broadcast center, presenting nightly newscasts and hosting the award-winning documentary program Witness. Over the last two decades, she has reported from conflict zones, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Haiti. She also regularly covers the annual high-level debates of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
Throughout her journalistic career, Ghida has been known for her fearless and candid sit-down interviews with prominent political leaders and Heads of State and Government, from Israel’s Simon Peres and Afghanistan’s Hamid Karzai, to Malaysia’s Mahathir Mohamad, Pakistan’s Imran Khan, Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi, and Brazil’s Lula da Silva, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, and South Africa’s former President F.W. de Klerk, as well as UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg among others.
She has also interviewed several Nobel Peace Laureates, including Malala Yousafzai; Hollywood actors such as Frieda Pinto; and prominent Rock stars like the Rolling Stones’ Bill Wyman and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters.
She has written about US foreign policy and international affairs, with op-eds published in the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, and the Huffington Post.
Ghida holds Masters degrees in International Relations from Boston University, and Middle Eastern Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She is fluent in English, French and Arabic and is conversational in Spanish.
