- McMaster's PhD thesis, which analyzed failures in U.S. military strategy and leadership during the Vietnam War, served as the foundation for his groundbreaking book: Dereliction of Duty: Johnson, McNamara, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Lies That Led to Vietnam.
