Olympian, CBS sports analyst, and philanthropist Charlie Davies is passionate about uplifting others through inspiration and positive reinforcement. Davies has had an international career spanning twelve years, playing in Sweden, France, Denmark, and MLS, and represented the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team at the 2008 Olympics. He currently serves as a broadcast analyst for CBS Sports, Major League Soccer, and the New England Revolution. Davies also co-hosts Call It What You Want, a U.S. soccer podcast for CBS. Davies is the Director of The ‘Quin Impact Fund, The ‘Quin House’s philanthropic arm. Leveraging his passion for creating a spark for change, he directs the club’s fundraising initiatives, programming, and fosters relationships with nonprofits and corporations. Davies is a motivating speaker on the topics of the power of a positive mindset, overcoming adversity and finding resilience, and philanthropy and the impact of giving back.

Passionately immersed in community service, Davies is a U.S. Soccer Foundation Ambassador, a New England Revolution Club Ambassador, focusing on sponsorships, fundraising, and community relations. He is a survivor of liposarcoma, a rare type of cancer, and is a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society’s “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign. He serves as a member on the Philanthropic Board of Advisors at Boston Children’s Hospital, on the boards of Beacon Academy, Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, in addition to volunteering with a myriad of organizations including The Steve Nash Foundation, the Boys & Girls Club of Boston, Horizons for the Homeless, and many others. In sought after engagements, Davies shares his personal story overcoming obstacles to become an Olympian, and how he uses his platform to make a difference.

How Olympian Charlie Davies fought his way out of poverty to become a USMNT star

Olympian and acclaimed philanthropist CHARLIE DAVIES shared with CBS Sports Golazo’s Kicking It his story of overcoming adversity beyond comprehension. Despite his mother’s repeated institutionalization for mental healthcare and his father’s battle with drug addiction, Davies cared for his younger brother, taking on responsibilities such as shopping for groceries with food stamps. When Davies found soccer, everything changed for the family; his father never missed a game. Davies truly realized he had the makings of a professional athlete around age 14, but he recalls, “I knew that the only way I was going to have at least one parent with me all the time was my dad and having that connection with soccer.”

Today, beloved by a global fan base collected across a nomadic career playing in Sweden, France, Denmark, and Major League Soccer, culminating in his Olympic career for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team. He continues to contribute to his sport as a CBS Sports broadcast analyst. Despite facing childhood adversity, Davies continues to inspire those around him with an uplifting, motivational mindset.

How Olympian Charlie Davies bounced back from a near-death car accident, cancer, and the premature birth of his twin sons

Olympian CHARLIE DAVIES was involved in a deadly car crash the morning after the U.S. Men’s National Team secured a spot in the World Cup, at the peak of his athletic career. Initially unable to stand for more than thirty seconds at a time, Davies committed to months of grueling 12-hour rehab days to make his soccer club return just over a year later.

After Davies turned his attention from building his career to building a family, he continued to face fate head on. His twin sons, Rhys and Dakota, were born three months early around the same time Davies was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. However, Davies committed to “move forward and find the positives," as he told the U.S. Sun, taking on a sacred duty to “inspire people” with his story. The family is now happy and healthy, and Davies shares his tools for resilience to help audiences worldwide.

Biography

Charlie Davies is a retired professional soccer player with an international career spanning twelve years having played in Sweden, France, and Denmark as well as stateside in Major League Soccer. Charlie was a member of the US Men’s National Team and represented the USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Gold Cup, World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and the Confederations Cup.

During the peak of his career, while on duty with the National Team during World Cup qualifying, he was involved in a serious car accident that derailed his career. After a year and a half of rehab he returned to the field scoring 2 years in his professional comeback. Then 5 years later, Davies was diagnosed with Liposarcoma, a rare cancer. Following extensive surgery, Davies once again returned to the field to play the sport he loves. Following his playing career, Charlie currently is a TV Soccer Analyst for CBS Sports and MLSSoccer.com, and Broadcast Analyst for the New England Revolution.  

Charlie serves as Director of the ‘Quin Impact Fund, the ‘Quin House’s philanthropic arm, where he works with numerous non-profits around the Greater Boston area developing relationships, creating access and opportunities, and helping to fund their missions. Charlie serves as a member on the Philanthropic Board of Advisors at Boston Children’s Hospital, a member of the Institute of Contemporary Art’s Advisory Board, a Board Member at Beacon Academy, a US Soccer Foundation ambassador, and a Nike brand ambassador.  

Charlie attended Brooks School, where he was an All-American soccer player and wrestler and was ACC player of the year while at Boston College.

He lives in Hingham, MA with his wife and twin sons.
