ALEXA VON TOBEL, the investor who studied at Harvard’s “Happiness Lab,” is encouraging children to learn smart and healthy money habits at an early age with her new book, Money Matters. Von Tobel has deep experience in financial education as the founder of online financial advisory LearnVest, which she later sold for $375M to Northwestern Mutual.
“Money is a very fun thing. And it doesn’t have to be something that we orient with stress [as adults],” von Tobel told CNBC. “It can be something that we orient with empowerment, and living the life you want to.”

Following the acquisition, Alexa joined the management team of Northwestern Mutual as the company’s first-ever Chief Digital Officer, overseeing digital strategy. She later assumed the role of Chief Innovation Officer through which she oversaw Northwestern Mutual’s venture arm.
