Dr. Elisa Hallerman, PhD, JD: Recovery Management Agency
Standing at the crossroads between relapse and more inner work, DR. ELISA HALLERMAN, PHD, JD set out on a mission to stay curious. This curiosity led her to become a drug and alcohol counselor after attending UCLA classes at night while continuing to agent by day. This is where she learned that we are in the midst of an urgent public-health crisis, given the devastating decline in mental heath, increase in suicide, and ongoing addiction epidemic—with the number-one cause of death among 18–45-year-olds being overdoses.
Recognizing the complexities with respect to mental-health and addiction services, she set out to change the landscape. She created RMA using the blueprint of a talent agency by providing clients with their own recovery manager for their unique set of circumstances. RMA recovery managers guide, educate, advocate, and reconnect their clients to soul and help them to build big, beautiful lives.
RMA provides clients with a high-end collaborative concierge experience designed to organize and integrate mental health, behavioral health, and primary-care treatment options. RMA uses a sophisticated framework that maps out the root cause of the client's symptomatology. Every client receives a personal recovery manager who is available to educate, navigate, and advocate through the complex field of mental and addiction healthcare. Each client’s personal plan is evaluated every month in the areas of psychology, biology, development, nutrition, and functional elements of their unique history.
Different individuals with the same mental-health or addictive disorders require different treatment, depending on the origin of the underlying condition. RMA provides full assessments; education on everything available to clients in order to help them make a well-informed decision moving forward; advocacy during the process; consistency with full information as clients move seamlessly from one treatment center or clinician to the next; and management in all areas of their lives to create less stress and allow for healing.
Addiction is a complex brain disease that can be worsened when compounded by other psychological disorders. The common phenomenon of dual diagnosis requires a carefully integrated treatment plan. RMA believes in an integrative approach that considers each client’s lifestyle, environment, and unique needs. They assess each client from a holistic perspective, resulting in treatment that is person-centered rather than disease-centered.
Functional medicine is a systems-oriented methodology that embraces the philosophy of integrative medicine; however, the mental-health recovery field does not necessarily follow this approach. Working with RMA enables clients and their recovery managers to collaborate and continually revise their treatment plan and recovery lifestyle. Clients can be confident that their team will meet them exactly where they are and offer treatment strategies to help clients reach their goals.
Recovery is not a straight line; addressing the origins of symptoms takes time, resilience, and consistency. While there will always be a short-term plan in place to treat the most acute affliction, it may take longer to uncover the roots of every aspect of the disease. The team at RMA is committed to their clients every step of the way. Their goal is to empower clients, as well as their loved ones, to develop greater agency in the healing process. As Dr. Hallerman writes in Soulbriety, “It is one thing to help an addict turn away from drugs and alcohol. It is another thing to turn them around and walk them back toward something: the essence of who they are.”
Elisa Hallerman’s new book ‘Soulbriety: A Plan to Heal Your Trauma, Overcome Addiction, and Reconnect with Your Soul’ is not just about getting sober; it’s about true, soul-centered wellness
Wellness innovator and author DR. ELISA HALLERMAN, PHD, JD is the Founder of Recovery Management Agency – the world’s first agency devoted to helping addicts heal their addictions by reawakening their souls. In her new book Soulbriety: A Plan to Heal Your Trauma, Overcome Addiction, and Reconnect with Your Soul, Elisa uses her knowledge of depth psychology and her personal experience as a recovering addict to help audiences reconnect with soul, find meaning and live with purpose.
On her fifth anniversary of sobriety, Elisa still awoke with a hurting heart. “This is not right. I am not happy. Sobriety was supposed to fix me, right? Isn’t that what sobriety is all about?”
Hallerman quickly realized that though she had freed her addiction to substances, she had not freed her soul. After years of trauma and substance abuse, she had only covered up the wounds, rather than truly healing them from within. Leaning on her studies and expertise, Soulbriety brings together Elisa’s story, philosophy, and methodology encouraging and facilitating us to use our soul as our map, as nourishment, and to create deep meaning in our lives. In her writing as well as compelling speaking engagements, she shows audiences exactly how to get there with step-by-step solutions and incredibly affecting storytelling.

Dr. Hallerman is the CEO and founder of Recovery Management Agency (RMA) and author of Soulbriety: A Plan to Heal your Trauma, Overcome Addiction and Reconnect with your Soul. Dr. Hallerman holds an MA and PhD in Depth Psychology with an emphasis in somatic studies, a field that melds the theories and practices of body-centered healing with the study of the unconscious. Dr. Hallerman is an attorney and member of the NY Bar Association and is often waived into cases by the top attorneys in the field of criminal and family law.
Dr. Hallerman developed the methodology of Soulbriety™, a soul-centered approach to addiction and trauma, after extensive research during her dissertation process in graduate school. Dr. Hallerman’s research in depth psychology, a field of study that explores how the unconscious aspects of the human experience influence psychological conditions, addiction, and trauma led her to develop the practice of Soulbriety™, which seeks to examine and understand what lives below the surface of addiction and trauma. Psychology comes from the word psyche, which means “soul.” However, modern psychology has lost its orientation to soul work, which Dr. Hallerman is reviving with her approach. Her research has shown that doing soul-centered work on our inner world can affect long-term sobriety. The caveat among those she studied was that they were unaware they were doing this work, as the language of soul rarely shows up in a clinical setting. Recognizing that it’s impossible to acknowledge or contextualize a feeling or emotion without having a name for it, she created Soulbriety™.
Dr. Hallerman has been sober from drugs and alcohol for more than two decades since 2002, but her next great transformation came five years later. Having been sober for five years and at the top of her game in Hollywood, she knew something was missing—not on the outside, which looked perfect, but on the inside, deep down where she had yet to look.
A former head of the talent department at United Talent Agency (UTA) and partner at William Morris Endeavor (WME), she represented Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, and many other comedic actors for over a decade. She is known for putting together movies such as Wedding Crashers, Dodgeball, The Break-Up, Zoolander, and many others.
