Phil learned how to harness his Dyslexia and ADHD to his creative advantage and shares his experience and insights as a dyslexia spokesperson in this hybrid keynote and moderated conversation.
Phil Hanley is a stand-up, writer, and actor, who is currently writing a memoir for Henry Holt (Macmillan) titled Spellbound, where he recounts growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia and how comedy became his saving grace for coping with this learning disorder.
Over the years, Phil has learned how to harness his Dyslexia and ADHD to his creative advantage, particularly when it comes to masterfully performing crowd work, as demonstrated on numerous social media clips that have gone viral. From this, Phil has become a key spokesperson on the subject of Dyslexia, which has led to him teaming up with organizations such as Eye To Eye, Dyslexia Canada, and Choose Your Own ADDventure.
Phil is a staple of the NYC comedy scene and a regular at the Comedy Cellar. A favorite on the late night TV circuit, he has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Comedy Central’s John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show.
Phil was featured in the hit feature film I Feel Pretty and the Comedy Central sketch series Inside Amy Schumer, both alongside fellow comic Amy Schumer, as well as playing a lead role in the film Sundowners alongside Tim Heidecker. His half-hour stand-up special can be seen on Comedy Central and iTunes, and his cult favorite comedy album Please Don’t Chit Chat While I’m Pursuing My Dream was released in 2018.
