WNBA All-Star Sabrina Ionescu’s off-court success: the launch of her SI20 foundation and major brand deals
WNBA All-Star player SABRINA IONESCU is finding success both on and off the court. As Forbes says, "the No. 1 overall selection in the 2020 WNBA Draft isn’t just letting her game talk for her, but she’s speaking volumes off the court as well."
Ionescu launched the SI20 Foundation to build community among diverse youth by creating equitable access to sports programs. The SI20 Foundation provides resources that foster deeper connections, leading to more inclusive communities and better teammates. Making a concrete impact, Ionescu unveiled a refurbished basketball court at the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club in partnership with 2K Foundations, SLAM, and BodyArmor. Sabrina’s programs offer major inspiration about teamwork, overcoming obstacles, and making a difference. Boardroom cheekily describes Ionescu’s philanthropic endeavors as “handing out assists in the community.”
On top of her foundation’s impact, Sabrina is pursuing major opportunities as the face of global brands. A few of her brand partners include Nike, BodyArmor, Autograph, and Beats by Dre. Professional basketball player Sabrina Ionescu plays for the New York Liberty of the WNBA and has been called the future of New York basketball. Before making the move to New York Liberty, Sabrina played for the University of Oregon where she accumulated numerous accomplishments including being unanimously voted the 2020 AP Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. She is also the first player, female, or male, in NCAA history with 2,000 career points (2,562), 1,000 career rebounds (1,040), and 1,000 career assists (1,091). Sabrina was selected first overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft, which was also the first number one overall draft pick in New York Liberty’s history.
On May 18th, 2021, Sabrina became the youngest player in the WNBA history to record a triple double. Most recently in July 2022, Sabrina set multiple WNBA records by notching the league’s first-ever triple-double while scoring more than 30 points all while matching the current record for most all-time career triple-doubles at three. Additionally, she was voted by fans to the 2022 WNBA All-Star Game as a starter. Sabrina earned her first Gold Medal as a member of the U.S. Women’s Team during the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Australia.
